cleaning ancients

When I was cleaning them, 99% of the time the harshest chemical I used was distilled water. Soak them in distilled water, and replace the water every few days. The water, since its distilled, will dissolve some of the minerals allowing cleaning easier.

Btw Benne911, please be aware of more "cleaned" coin success comes from covered over coins. Most of those coins on Ebay will never amount to anything. You see them, slick little bits of metal. There is nothing to be uncovered. They are basically slugs, yes technically they were coins, but nothing will ever bring back details. If you want to clean coins, look for uncleaned coins that are half covered or totally covered with debris. The people who dig these up REALLY know what they are doing, and most of the coins on Ebay they quickly, and correctly, determined they are of no value.

I was lucky and was able to buy uncleaned coins 10 years ago frech from the fields with good details, or completely covered so as the diggers had no way of knowing what was under the crust. Those are the pieces that turn out to be winners. 99% of Ebay lots don't. If you ever have a question on a specific lot, feel free to PM me.
