This is a reminder for people to buy the coin and not the slab.

Hey, @Mainebill and @Collecting Nut - could you please provide some more detail about what looks cleaned on this coin? I am trying to learn.

Very finds lines on the coin and a tiny bit of dirt in the low places. Most coins that old have been cleaned. There was a time that cleaning was acceptable but not today. Your coin straight graded so that’s good.

Absolutely no way a 170 year old circulated silver coin looks this white. No patina. No grunge no toning. I've seen so many seated dollars straight graded with this look. And in my opinion NONE should straight grade. I actively seek out seated dollars with original skin as they're so scarce

    This is what a circulated seated dollar should look like 20150119_201013_1850 $1 ms40 pcgs 29882587 rev closeup_01.jpg 20150119_200756_1850 $1 ms40 pcgs 29882587 obv closeup_01.jpg

To those with more experience than me…. Are the halos around the stars closest to liberty’s head another indication of cleaning, I know gunk tends to get trapped in those tiny recesses and was wondering if the different look of metal might indicate some cleaning there.

You can really see the scratches which is a key indication of cleaning.
