I'm pretty sure that TIF merely has her pool boy and/or girl do that kinda stuff ... ... mmmm, pool girl ... Ooops, here's a coin ... ... this stuff never gets old ...
I generally don't like cleaning coins, but I feel safer cleaning silver over bronze. I haven't the patience or expertise to clean coins like some of our gang have shown. I'd rather buy better quality and already cleaned coins. I would probably just destroy any value.
That's a significant improvement, Bing. Well-done. I don't think anyone would argue that that coin could have benefited from a little freshening-up. I have one coin that arrived yesterday that I'm on the fence about. It's a great little denarius of Thrax, superb bust, decent reverse for the type. Parts of the coin are shiny, others have a thin layer of dirt. I'm not sure if I should clean it up a bit or not - I rather like it the way it is. What say y'all?
LOL, I was responding to @TIF 's quick knowledge of 304 Stainless Steel in her salt environment... But, yeah, everything YOU said too... Hey, maybe you could start a thread with Ancient Coins balanced with Pool Pics- with a focus on pool girls... (similar to your Ancients with Music thread...)
Remember, as we discussed...we are all 20 in our heads no matter our age My Friend! My Mother taught me that!
=> my Mum told me that I'd never amount to nuthin' (I showed her, eh?) Ummm, sometimes my back feels like it's 52 years old, but my spirit says that I'm only fricken 13!!
Actually, your government has contacted me on several occasions, but I am guarded ... I want to use my power for good, not evil ...
Good job Bing! You did a great job CONSERVING this piece, not "cleaning " it period.(hope you gave it a good boiling hot DISTILLED water rinse) to get rid of the acid.congrats it came out aces.
It's funny that you mention Estes Park. I live outside of Boulder(about 1 hour away) and we have had a relatively humid summer here it seems. A drachm of Istros that I bought earlier this year has noticeably toned in the ~2 months that I've had it sitting out on top of my bookshelf in a SAFLIP. Most everything else stays in a box with dessicants, but I was pleasantly surprised at the tone it was acquiring.
