I like them! A really nice Aurelian and Vabalathus, preferably fully silvered, is on my upcoming to-do list.

I'm still kicking myself for not snapping up the solid (debased billon) Antioch Claudius II from Dr. Fishman some years ago. It seemed to be solid and not silver washed.

Sweet toning and call out for Severina :singing: @DonnaML

(Button nose, great smile, gotta love representations of her... though sadly, only found on coin as far as I can find)
Possibly the only woman ever to rule Rome. After Aurelian's unexpected Hitchcockian murder, for two to three months Severina was the source and was the one "In charge" of the greatest empire that Rome had been for a century:smuggrin:

Thanks for all the comments and positivity:)
Do you have any dirty Clauds to share?

    Dirty Claud?
How about this one that came out of a coin machine reject bin last year?

To add to the dirtiness, this token was also in the pile of coins:

Great coins everyone! I love Claudius II and his coins. Embrace the scrappiness! Sadly most of my CII coins are unphotographed but below are a few of my favorites!

A lot of nice coins in this thread!

Here is my favorite Claudius II. Its reverse celebrates the victory over the Goths that gave him the title "Gothicus:"

Gotta love Claudius II. I have quite a few coins of him - here are some from different mints :D

    Antioch - VIRTVS AVG
    claudius ii virtvs avg s.png

    Milan - SPES PVBLICA
    claudius ii spes pvblica.png

Rome - MARTI PACIFERO. It's a little unusual to find examples from Rome that have full silvering
    claudius ii marti pacifero.png

    Siscia - LAETITIA AVG
    claudius ii laetitia avg.png

My favourite mint, though, is probably either Smyrna or Cyzicus

    Cyzicus - VICTORIAE GOTHIC
    claudius ii victoriae gothic 5.png

The M-C group of Cyzicus mint coins are also very interesting to me!

Cyzicus - SECVRITAS PERPETVA claudius ii mc.png

    Smyrna - P M TR PO P P. A very scarce dated issue
    claudius ii p m tr po pp.png

    Smyrna - ROMAE AETERNAE
    claudius ii romae aeternae spqr.png

And finally one of my posthumous coins

    Nice coins!

@Ryro, one small correction - your LAETITIA is actually a mule of a DIVO CLAVDIO obverse X Quintillus or Aurelian reverse. Much more common from the Rome mint than any other mint or time period, which indicates strongly that it could have been one of the coins stemming from the criminal mismanagement of Felicissimus, the mint director later put to death for his negligence and dishonesty. Whether they were the result of lackluster quality control or moonlighting employees using any available dies to strike pilfered metal is a matter of debate.

My example, DIVO CLAVDIO X PAX AVGVSTI Divo Claudio Pax.jpg

And I have quite a few Claudius IIs, but some of my favorites

Alexandria - my only provincial of his
Claudius II Alexandria tet 269 dikaiosyne scales_compress69.jpg

    Lifetime
Claudius ii victory milan.jpg Claudius ii FORTVNA REDVX cyzicus_compress39.jpg Claudius II VICTORIAE GOTHIC.jpg
    Claudius II Victory milan.jpg

Posthumous - this is the only type that uses GOTHICO in his obverse titulature
    Divo Claudio Gothico mediolanum.jpg

Barbarous - His barbarous coinage is almost always literate and usually head and shoulders above the Tetricus types, which perhaps lends some credence to the theory that after the Mint Revolt in 270, some escaped employees set up shop and continued minting illicit Claudius II types, just without access to the chief engravers who made the portraits.
Barbarous Claudius II Figure holding branch scepter shield at feet.jpg
    claudius ii libertas barbarous_compress42.jpg

And finally - a posthumous from a good 40 years later by his purported great-nephew, Constantine

Thanks so much for the info! Really interesting stuff. Crazy to think that my tiny mule might have been part of the reason for the mint directors demise!

Late to the party, but couldn't resist participating in this nice thread. Great OP portrait, @Ryro, I love the early Milan portrait style. Here's mine:
    CII milan first issue.jpg
    FIRST emission though. :p

Probably my favourite portrait of CII though is on this tet:
    CII tet.jpg

My favourite reverse type is this ex @zumbly Neptune:
    245.jpg

There's a good discussion of these denominations in this old thread. Here's my chart of laureate and radiate AE weights & diameters from acsearch. I think it supports the idea that the CII and Aurelian laureate coins are sestertii which came in steadily reduced weights:

This one's a rare special issue during this late "sole reign"(?) period from Serdica, with SEVERINA AVGVSTA fully spelled out:
    severina augusta.jpg
    RIC temp #2828 (6 examples)

I think this might be my favourite double strike ever!!

Your early Milan is sharp as a tack... but I see what you mean about that Stoic tet. What a wonderful furrowed brow, pronounced nose and 1,000 yard stare.
Thanks for the link! I've got a fun read ahead of me:bookworm::)
