I noticed that , but if you want the rarity of any Fuld # , just write it and I'll look it up for you . If you're going to collect CWTs , either Patriotics which I prefer or store cards you'll need the Fuld books .
Yes, CWTs can be confusing...very confusing! Like rzage says, you MUST have the good references like Fuld. BTW, Yankee Robinson also counterstamped coins, mostly Half Dollars that were good for admission to his shows. I have a nice example in my collection that I bought from a fellow CT member several years ago. Bruce
Coin World February had a 4-5 page article on Yankee Robinson. If can get a back issue or go to website, there was a list of books&photo . That may help.I would show page but it's copyrighted so that would breaking forum's rulers.
I have Civil War Tokens by David Bowers. In there it shows that all of the tokens are from IL but over here you guy are saying they're from OH so now Im really confused. In the book that I have it mentions a few different types and then it will give a range of numbers such as IL-692-A-1 to 7. And with those number I can kind of put them in categories but then I cant get more specific. Also all of them in the book are R-4 but im assuming that some are more rarer than others...
Yes the Bowers book can be confusing. He chose to feature the IL tokens not the OH tokens made earlier. This and a number of other issues, such as the five digit reverse numbers that are not explained.
Yeah I dont know. I might pick up a few different examples but Id like to be able to classify them before I do anything.
The best source for token books is: http://cwtsociety.com. Well worth the cost of membership, plus you will receive the CWT Journal.
Yep well worth the $15 membership , that you will get back in savings if you buy one or both the books , plus the journels are super interesting .
Yes it is one of my favorites. A nice strong strike on a clean S/L Half Dollar. There are about two dozen examples documented, all, except one, on Half Dollars. The exception is struck on a Quarter with no date. They show up at auctions every once in awhile and usually draw good money. Bruce
Not at all. I bought it in December, 2012 for $320. The same coin was auctioned by Stacks-Bowers in September, 2011 in Philadelphia. It's on an 1843-O Half Dollar. Bruce
I'm starting to think those #s from Illinois are mistakes as I heard there were a few in the Redbook of Civil War Tokens . BRandM , that sounds like a deal to me and a great pickup . WTG .
Guys here is one that I just bought. I believe its Fuld number is IL-692-A-12a. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Also does anyone know the rarity? And where they got that info from. Thanks
Like I said yesterday those #s aren't listed in the 2nd edition of Fulds book . So unless they are new discoveries , which is possible , it should have an Cincinnati , Ohio # . Is the edge plain or reeded ?
But in the Bowers book it says its a IL-692-A-12a. From the post that Bruce posted yesterday about each type I matched the 12a from my book with his 12a so Im thinking its a R-6? Maybe..
Sounds good . But this id a tough one to match . I'll PM Bill (Penny Guy ) as he atributes the hard one better than me .
