    Awesome. If you know his name and unit and can read the serial number you may have some valuable traceability. Do not publish the Serial Number. Keep it to yourself.

    Too bad about the rust and pitting. it's a pretty safe bet the bore and cylinder are in bad shape which will reduce the value.
    It still has significant value.
    Looks like it might be an 1860 Colt.
