Very nice additions with great toning on the Hill and Marshall pieces. I always loved off-metal tokens, especially in white metal. BTW, M.L. Marshall also issued some counterstamped coins which would make a neat companion piece to your token.

1840 Marten Van Buren 8th US President HT 75

    [IMG][IMG]

Andrew Jackson’s handpicked successor, Martin Van Buren, sought his second term in 1840. Van Buren’s term as President was marred by the financial 'Panic of 37', and corresponding banking issues inherited from Andrew Jackson’s dismantling of the Second Bank of the United States. Van Buren’s solution to the banking controversy was what he termed an Independent Sub-Treasury, a bank of deposit for Federal funds which would be independent of commercial bank speculative investments. He touted his banking solution on the medal

I have been bidding off on, for a McClellan CWT in nice condition, but not successfully. I have it on my "to buy" list at the January FUN Show. I would like a XF-AU myself. What's the current going price? I may have to add a little more to the kitty.

I'm not sure if I have posted these Tilden Political's or not but I was able to add a few white metal examples to the lot of them.

The Wide Awakes were a political club that emerged across the North, during the election of 1860.
They were organized in support of the campaign of Abraham Lincoln.

Appealing mainly to those in their teens, twenties, and thirties, the Wide Awakes took on an organized military form.
They wore uniforms and had ranks and duties. These young men were motivated by the contentious sectional politics of the 1850s.
Their organization and militaristic nature alarmed the South and helps to explain the fierce opposition to Lincoln’s election.

The group began in Connecticut and probably numbered around 100,000 nationwide. This number would be around 1 million in terms
of the current-day population. Its organization spread across new communication channels, and in May of 1860
the marching of the Chicago Wide Awakes at the Republican National Convention introduced the organization to the nation

I finally found a nice example of the "large date" Fuld die #173...

I thought it was a pretty nice match for my other similar die pair tokens.

Yep, the 173 is basically the "large date" version of the 174 die. The lettering also differs around the statue of Washington. The 174/272a is the most graded of all of the patriotic Civil War tokens by NGC (they report 217 BN and 34 RB in their census -- 2 in MS67, and 15 in MS66). While they only report 21 graded examples all BN of the 173/272a token -- 3 in MS65BN and none higher.

Despite both tokens being rated R1, the 173/272a is most assuredly more difficult to find in gem than the 174. I've been looking for nearly 4 years for one I liked.
