Our favorite teller at the bank saves G things that she thinks he will like too! It's actually a great inexpensive resource for coins, he hasn't found many keepers, but he has had a lot of fun and learned quite a bit while looking. :thumb: I recently bought several rolls of new uncirculated presidential dollars at the bank for Garrett and I'm always paranoid about which ones are keepers and which ones I get to spend. I love to confuse the poor little McDonalds guy at the drive thru window with the dollar coins. I have to remind him every time I use them, they're not "funky quarters." (I am amazed at how many people have NEVER seen them) Rather than return the dollar coins that he didn't want to keep to the bank Garrett thought it would be cool to release them into circulation, so he's been paying for his lunch with them at school ($6.00 a DAY?!?!) After a week the lunchroom lady asked if they were real or if he was making them in his garage. :mouth:

I really hope your coin wasn't stolen before it found it's way to you, but if it was, the coin might help find the thieves. It's too bad that theft even has to be considered, but it's a real possibility. The police wouldn't go through very much trouble for just your coin, but if it's part of a larger collection that was taken they would take move of an interest. The bank will have surveillance video of the "young male" and you probably have at least a partial fingerprint of the person that brought it to the bank on that coin. (I watch CSI and Law and Order, can you tell) If you live in a small town you could even call the police dept and see if there were any recent reports of theft that included coins. Don't waste your time with a call if you're in a big city. Theft is a big fear of mine. That is why G's coins all live at the bank, they only get to come home for the occasional visit. (That's why getting the coin photography nailed is so important to him, pictures is how he enjoys them.)

I don't mean to diminish your excitement. It is quite a cool find, but if it's part of a larger stolen collection I'd want to help get get them returned. There are a couple of other possibilities other than theft as to how the coin made it to the bank. :vanish: They could have done what I fear doing and just spent the wrong coin or they needed money, cashed in their own piggy bank and just had no idea what they had. With the economy in the condition it's in and unemployment rates at the highest level in 16 years people are scraping together what they can. I read in one of G's coin magazines that now is a great time to be checking your change because so many people have been cashing in their piggy banks and coins that have been kept for years are finding their way into circulation. One business that doesn't seem to be having trouble in this economy is coin star. I'm seeing those machines pop up everywhere. Just in our neighborhood they've put one in Publix and Super Wal-Mart in the last 6 months. Good luck, keep us posted on what you find out. :secret:
