A new auction win. Anyone know anything about this countermark? Post any comments, Severus Alexander provincials, Apollo and Artemis coins, or anything you feel is relevant.

This appears to be an obverse and reverse die match to the only other example at acsearchinfo, Numismatik Naumann Auction 27, lot 460, Jan. 4, 2015:

Found some more info. It's in Lindgren III with the same countermark (Howgego 670):

Severus Alexander Seleucia ad Calycadnum Lindgren.jpg

Lindgren notes the following references: SNG Switzerland I 761 (Levante), Ziegler 474.9.28.

Note: obverse and reverse die match to both examples above.

Triangular (Delta) countermarks are often found on coins of Calycadnum. The triangle with dot is Howgego 670 and here's the excerpt from the book:

    Howgego670.jpg

Here's another Calycadnum coin with the same countermark:

CILICIA, Seleucia ad Calycadnum. Gordian III
    238-244 CE
    Æ 27 mm, 11 gm
Obv: ...ΓOPΔIANO radiate and draped bust right; C/M dot within triangle (Howgego 670)
Rev: CEΛEVKEΩN; Athena advancing right, holding her shield with her extended left arm & preparing to hurl a spear at an anguipede giant (Enceladus?) who is throwing stones at her.
    Ref: c.f. SNG Levante 763

And a Calycadnum coin without countermark :)

Obv: IOVΛIA ΔOM CЄBACT; draped bust right

    A well-preserved example from CNG:

Severus Alexander Seleucia ad Calycadnum CNG.jpg
CNG notes: "SNG Levante 761 (same obverse die); SNG Levante Suppl. 195 (this coin); SNG France 1009 (same dies); SNG von Aulock --."

    Here's mine again for comparison:

Severus Alexander Seleukeia ad Kalykadnon Apollo and Artemis.jpg
Mine is an obverse and reverse die-match to the CNG example, and therefore a die match to SNG France and SNG Levante Suppl. and an obverse die match to SNG Levante.

@Roman Collector, I wasn't playing close enough attention and just saw that your coin has an "o" in the center of the triangle whereas Howgego 670 has a dot. I guess the significance, if any, will remain speculative. CNG didn't make a distinction between the two in this listing.
