a new drachm and denarius for my first big pick up of 2015. this one is literally big, if not very expensive. Hadrian 117-138 AD Æ Drachm (35mm, 15.4g) Dated yr 2 (117/8 AD) Alexandria Laureate bust right, slight drapery. / Nilus reclining left, holding reed and cornucopia; below; L B (date) in ex. Köln 760. my first alexandrian drachm, a type of been wanting for a while. this one is thinner than most, but has a nice brownish red patina that caught my eye. this one i shelled out more money for than any other coin i have, a sweet serrate republican denarius. Roman Republic L. Scipio Asiagenus AR serrate Denarius (19mm, 3.62 g) Rome 106 BC Laureate head of Jupiter left Jupiter driving galloping quadriga right, hurling thunderbolt and holding reins and scepter; L SCIP ASIAG and C• in ex. Crawford 311/1e; very fine, lightly toned
I like em both, but I'm totally jealous of the serrate republican. Great pickup. Great portrait (what is that, a mole on his nostril?).
Congrats on your first big Alexandrian. That RR quadriga is a real top of the line model... and with an excellent portrait!
Super coin's Chris, awesome big pond skipper, the serrated edge coin is been on my want list for a while. i like them!!!
