Nobody has them in hand. They are pre-sales. There is a difference between presales, which have been guaranteed to ship, and actually selling a coin that you have no intentions of getting at all, and are just trying to scam people. I have mine on eBay. I'm not scamming anybody. I have a mint receipt, and my order will ship 10.30.09
The Honest sellers who have a confirmation #, will put PRESALE in caps, multiple times in their listing.
I guess that's some confusion on my end then... I have an order number and an "expected to ship" date, but thought I was hearing that just those were not actual indicators of whether I actually "got one" or not. Believe me, if I could have gotten a couple, one to keep and one to sell, I'd be all over that. I'm just not sure what constitutes a guarantee from the Mint that I have one on the way.
If you're gonna sell your set, sell it quickly. I got a feeling the prices are gonna drop once the mint starts shipping them out.
Nope, only got the one, and (assuming I get it!) it's all mine! However, with a limitation of just 50k, do you really think it will drop in value that much? I'm sure the multiple hundred dollar sales will cease, but it should remain higher than purchase value, shouldn't it?
I certainly hope it does (I bought one, too). However, in April, I bought ten (10) 2006 Benjamin Franklin Coin & Chronicle sets for $267 (less than $30 each)...maybe I was just lucky. Each of the BF sets has the Unc Scientist dollar with a mintage of only 58,000. There were 500,000 of the Proof Lincolns minted. Lincoln is more popular than Franklin so maybe it will hold its value better. I plan to keep my set, but if I was going to sell...I would do it right away while the feeding frenzy is strong.
Oh ya, take it while you can get it, no doubt! Your Franklin's are selling under $30, but are being asked in the 40's and above. I guess at this point just give them time. They're also stamp heavy, rather than coin heavy...could that be keeping them down?
I really love the simplicity of the Ben Franklin-Scientist design. I couldn't believe I got those sets for that price. I also got the Lincoln Unc & Proof NGC graded @ MS70 and PR70 for $180. I was pleased with that deal, too. I get some bad coins on eBay, but on balance I do fairly well. About 10 minutes ago, I bought some coins from a MD dealer I've bought from before with good results. They are two (2) copies of the same coin. They are from the Admiral Gardner shipwreck. I may have overpaid for the coins, but I believe them to be genuine and therefore pretty cool. This is a link to one of them... http://cgi.ebay.com/BRILLIANT-1808-...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item4ceb669ff7
You got a sweet deal on those Lincoln ms & pf70's. I paid much more. But love em and they are perfect at high mag.
Yeah, I decided to keep mine too. I'd rather have this in my collection than turn a quick $100. The price would really have to be up there to get me to sell.
This is one set which IMHO will be utterly ruined if sent to grading companies. I did order one and will keep it in its original mint packaging. The signature, the address, and the coins are all integral parts of the set which cannot be separated. I think it will be viewed as a small artifact of history in the distant future.
Ya, I love a profit maker, but only if I already own the coin for my own collection. I don't care if they go for $500...if I only have one, it's MINE!
