Thanks willieboyd2. I go back and forth on this. It's a coin I'm considering buying but there is a language barrier with the seller so it's hard to get a better verbal description of the coin and marks. I don't know if this site has been posted before but some of you may find it of use, or at least interesting: Chopmarked Foreign Silvers Make sure to look at the coins under the Specimens section. He shows good examples but I wish the pictures were bigger and clearer. It was after looking through the examples that made me think again that those may be chopmarks on the above coin. The site shows 2 types of fonts for the Chinese characters. Scroll down on this page to see the 2 font types - the smaller font (Type 1) - many are not so easily recognizable as Chinese characters, some look like accidental dings on the coin. - the larger font (Type 2) - these are easily recognizable as Chinese characters. The marks on the coin I posted could be the smaller font Type 1 chopmarks. But it's hard to say. I think I will just buy the coin and see. Either way I'm going to stop obsessing about it. I just really enjoy researching coins and their history.
