I collect Japanese coins and do have a 1896 One Yen MS-62 graded with one left chop mark, ("gin"). I will go with "gxseries" on value. Also you have to be very careful with any Japanese, Korean or Chinese silver as these coins may have been cleaned in the past. I used to live in Japan and even local dealers are reticent about the imprint of chop marks. Great thread though.

Actually, counterstamped coins are often graded twice...once for the counterstamp and a second time for the condition of the coin. Both matter to most collectors. Bruce
