I collect Japanese coins and do have a 1896 One Yen MS-62 graded with one left chop mark, ("gin"). I will go with "gxseries" on value. Also you have to be very careful with any Japanese, Korean or Chinese silver as these coins may have been cleaned in the past. I used to live in Japan and even local dealers are reticent about the imprint of chop marks.

    Great thread though.

    Hi Ian:

I have a coin with a chop mark. It says FM Rose Page 29/2. Would you be kind enough to send me a scan or a pic of pages 29 and 30 since you already have the book? I have attached the pics for your kind perusal. Thank you very much.

Actually, counterstamped coins are often graded twice...once for the counterstamp and a second time for the condition of the coin. Both matter to most collectors.

    Hi Bruce,

What are your views about my coin?

    Thanks.
