You make a good point, methinks.

If presented with a real coin with weakness in this area, I would attribute softness in this area to grease (but to be honest it didn't strike me as odd as the rim which just looks wrong).

However, knowing that the coin is a counterfeit, that area of atypical softness in the hair does stand out as odd, and thanks for pointing it out.

I would have been fooled and asking for a new NC designation. The first star points at a denticle and all 5 known 1828 obverses have the first star pointing between denticles. I am a specialist though I'm learning that isn't helping me lately.
