    Hi all,

I picked up a few Chinese cash coins and the Baltimore show and haven't been able to ID them yet. Can anyone help?

These 2 have the same characters but are different sizes.

I have alot of these types of coins - why do they call them "cash coins"? - I posted a few pics of some of mine last year and someone on Coin Talk actually new how to read what the symbols mean - pretty cool. But I have since forgotten all he told me.:sour:

I can read a few characters. I speak Korean and a bit of Chinese.

I think the first 2 say Kuan Yong Yong Bao and the 2nd may say Ming Ming Tong Bao.

Sorry but none of them are Chinese.. the first 2 are Kanei Tsuho (Tokugawa Japan) whilst the last is Annam (modern day Vietnam). Both follow the Chinese cast design but not from China

Thanks! I just stumbled on the Vietnamese one and was thinking the other 2 may be Japanese.

Your guess was right. They are the Shin (new) Kanei Distinguishable by their last 2 strokes of the 寶。the last is a Minh Mang coin. Circa late 18 to early 19th century.

Thanks. Any idea of the date range for the Japanese coins? I found a reference that says somewhere between 1636-1769. If you have any references I could use I would greatly appreciate it :)

A good reference would be Hartill's Early Japanese Coins. 20151118_100726.jpg
