I have difficulty locating info on my china coins. Can someone help me with this one? And maybe point me to some helpful links? Also the white on this coin looks like solder to me. Any ideas?

It's actually Japanese if I am not wrong. I'm not an expert in this as I don't actively collect them.

Japan, 1 mon. This type (inscription "Kanei tsuho") with plain reverse is from 1626-1769.

Glad to help! Your initial guess of China was very reasonable, since older coins of Japan (and also Korea, Vietnam, and a few other places) used Chinese characters and had the format of Chinese coins.

The best website I know of is the Zeno site (not sure if it's against board rules to post a link here), but you do have to know a fair bit about the subject to figure out how to use that site effectively. Basically, if you already know how to identify the coin, you can use Zeno to identify the coin o_O There are a number of books on the subject, too. If you have just a few coins, your best bet is probably to post clear photos of them here- I (and many more knowledgeable specialists here) would be happy to try the identification.
