A Spaniards has visited Chile at the first time at 1530. Twenty years after they founded 4 cities on the Chilean coast: New Estremadura, Consepsion, Santiago & Valdivia. So Chile became the Spanish colony. It was the colony with a big agrarian culture: Chilean filds became the main source of a wheat for a Spanish colonies in Southern America. Since the beginning of the XVIIIth century Chile became an important center of production of copper. At 1810 the War for an Independence has started. At 1823 Spanish colonial troops was defeated and Chile became an independent republic de jure. At 1837 Chile became the ally of Argentina and took part in the war against Peru and Bolivia. Chile has won the war and got new territories. After that Chile took part in the Pacific War and has won again.
Chilean monetary system wasn't very simple: peso became the national currency. One peso was equal to 8 reales. 16 reales was equal to 1 golden escudo. The biggest face value was o coin with the face value 8 escudos. This monetary system has existed till 1835. After the monetary reform Chile has the new monetary system: 10 centavos = 1 decimo, 10 decimos = 1 peso, 10 pesos = 1 condor. But at the same tame a coins with a face value 8 escudos proceeded till 1851.
