The Conder series is so interesting and also a tough one to cherrypick. :goofer: Thanks for filling in the blanks! :thumb: Ribbit
I was correct with my attribution. Another collector confirmed it for me today, since I don't have a pic of one to compare it to. :kewl: The obverse is very weakly struck and it has planchet flaws but for the price I paid, it was a steal. On Connecticuts, they are quite commonly misattributed on the dates so if the date isn't visible, I always figure out the variety to confirm the date, which is why I knew this was a 1787 to begin with, prior to bidding. About once every two years I get an 1864 Small motto 2 Cent coin dirt cheap because the seller does not know what he is selling usually only in AG or G. Me thinks others are scanning as well as the last one went over $100
That used to be one I'd look for but I'd always get outbid so I gave up on them. It's too easy to find and too many peeps know about it, so I now pick on the ones that aren't so easy to spot. However, one I was planning on sniping got spotted by others and shot up big-time today. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=220389168666 It's a 1788 4.1-K (R-5) and one I need but now it's gone past my budget. I know this isn't a big deal, I was up really late and... I got this for $5.50 plus $2.99 Shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=150336417374 PCGS has it valued at $35. Even if that is high, I think I did very well. and this one, I got for $13.59 Free Shipping http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=180344289180 PCGS has it at $26. I noticed a lot of PCGS slabbed later coins are going for WAY below list price. I am not talking a little either, sometimes half and 1/3! I can't help but feel in 20 years I will be rewarded for scooping up every one I find.
I believe you got them cheaper than it costs to have them graded and slabbed, so not bad! :thumb: Ribbit
