    Full Split Bands are hardly uncommon on 1940-D's. The doubling resembles a couple of the known RPM's for the date, but all show the bottom curve as well, inside the second punch (the second hit is the "real" mint mark, as it "overwrites" the original punch). This is something for you to check personally with a loupe, imbadwithnames (a nick after mine own heart :) ).
