Is there any distinguishing marks that would differentiate the Cheerios from the regular issued one besides the tail feathers and raised shaft? Would well circulated Cheerios coins be worth anything? Or is the appeal solely based on having a good representation of the feathers? Curious cause I happened to have 40 of these golden $1 fall in my lap. Several of the presidents and a couple of the chick. Also, just purchased a small lot that was found in a wall of a house during remodeling. Cant wait to sit down and go through it! Keep your fingers crossed for me
I can’t answer your question about Cheerios coins but it sounds like you’ve been a busy girl and have a lot of fun as you search those coins.
Only 5500 of the so called cheerios dollars were produced. Of that number nobody knows how many were of the enhanced reverse variety. To give you a sense of how scarce they are only 51 have been graded at NGC of which 43 were of he enhanced reverse variety.
Every box in the promotion contained either the penny or the Sac. Dollar. Only 1 in 1800 contained the Dollar.
It was my understanding, from other posts here, over the years, that TPG wouldn't label a coin as a Cheerio coin unless it was still in it's original cellophane wrapper. I could easily be wrong about this, so take it with a grain of salt. The only thing I know about them is the tail feathers. So.... after nearly a year searching, do you still enjoy searching and have you found any circulated Cheerios Dollars? I found two for sale on evilbay. They sold ungraded for $1058 and $2060. PCGS would not certify the first one as a Cheerios Dollar. They graded it a AU58, standard 2000P Sac. Dollar. Cert. #36850522. It was later crossed and downgraded to an ANACS AU55 "CHEERIOS PATTERN REVERSE FS-902 Cert. #74554281". The second one ANACS graded as an AU58. "CHEERIOS PATTERN REVERSE FS-902 Cleaned" Cert. #74554280. Happy Hunting. Good luck.
