The 1851-C gold dollar is the most common Charlotte Mint coin. It is the easiest Charlotte Mint coin to find in Mint State. There are three die varieties of the date. The OP photos are a bit small and fuzzy to make out all of details it takes to attribute these tiny coins.
Well… Last night the fellow promised me better photos. So far I haven’t seen them. But to be fair I did call him after hours. After seeing the examples shown here I am not liking the blobby appearance of the “C” mintmark.
Not this one. There are actually several nice pieces that I think I'll be taking a swing at. Hope I don't get burned like that Gold Standard company burned me.
I might start out with something less spendy to feel the waters out, then. You did mention though that coins are not their usual offerings? Ungraded, high value pieces, offered by an auction house that does not normally bring up such pieces……..this could go either way. You get them for a steal and they’re legit, or………..
