Getting good answers. Most Charlotte coins have very bad finish. As to the note, NGC said "cannot be graded as it appears coin was apparently used in inapporiate jewelry mount", I don't know if they determine anything about coin before the decision was made about mount. I do believe it is real, though, as it was purchased in the 1940's and has been sitting around for years. I ran across it while checking a friends coin he had stored in a box. Checked a picture of it against counterfeit Charlotte coins and it seemed to pass all the tests to be real. The Charlotte poor coin quality was mentioned, guess it's why the mint got shut down so fast (unless the South needed precious metal). Either way, makes me believe its real and worth , at least VG if not for rim marks. Most of your answers fall in line with my thoughts. Not worth trouble to sell on Ebay. Maybe sell to jewelry store (if they understand or care about the Charlotte minting. Thanks for your time. Steve
