I just finished reading these two articles about the history of these two mints. They are very well written and researched. From the early "gold rush" days of the S.E. United States right thru to planning, construction and the eventual closing of the mints, they were a good read. Earmark to your "Favorites" and you can re-read them at your leisure. @johnmilton does a wonderful job of bringing all of the facts together. Thanks John. Respectfully, Tibor
I, too, enjoy reading his threads, and if you enjoy reading about the early history of the US Mint, you might want to get a copy of Roger Burdette's book, From Mine to Mint. It goes into great detail about the growth and expansion of the Mint, including the branch mints and assay offices, during the period, 1833-1937. Chris
Roger's book is an excellent read and I bought at the last Balt./Whitman I was at. John's post is an excellent short version that is also a good read.
