Certified Britannias. Anyone know where to find them?

Discussion in 'Bullion Investing' started by ClevelandRocks, Feb 26, 2012.

  1. Hey guys, I just joined cointalk today. This is my first post. I'm looking to get every year of proof silver britannias. Clearly I missed the boat because I can only find 2011 and 2012 britannias (silvertowne.com). I would prefer to find pf 70 ultra cameos, but man are these hard to come by. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.

Apmex has 09 and 10 MS69 Britannia, but why not just buy them raw they are bullions'? Any particular reason you want certified Britannia?

I think your best source is going to be ebay, if they can even be found; just be ready to take a second mortgage on your house to get a complete set of 69 and/or 70 grades.

Good luck with the series, some of the years like 2001 is literally a needle in a haystack. Prepare to pay some serious moolah on that one.

  6. Thank you for all of the replies. I figured certified would be better for future resale value, but the raw coins look just as good so I may have to give up on certified Britannias. Its just that they are so cool looking and I love how they change the design each year. I just can't believe how hard they are to find. I can't even find a pf 70 ucam for 2012! I may have to lower expectations.... or sell my wife's ring. LOL... but seriously.

If it was me, I would stick with the raw brilliant uncirculated coins. I have a number of them and they all look really good and have a proof-like quality to them. Of course, they do not have the frosted devices like the actual proofs do. On the other hand, they do not carry the high price tag like the real proofs do. If you can find them in person, it would be better. This is because my experience is the older the britannia is, the more likely there is wear on the Queen side in the facial area.

The only actual proof I have is the 2009 (chariot) because that is my favorite design by far. My next favorite would be the 2007 (lion), but the asking price on that coin is too much for me in that I have other things I'd rather have for that amount of money. I completely agree with you that they are great looking coins for bullion. Good luck.

I love 'em, too, but I never thought about buying them graded. I sent you a PM.
