Centipede coin marking on 1942 Canada Cent

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by Dave from the country, Jun 3, 2021.

  1. Hi There. Has anyone ever seen a coin with a marking like this on it? Any comments or suggestions as to what it is and what might have caused it would be most appreciated. I add there are 5 or six die cracks on both sides of the coin. Thanks. Dave

Looks like damage from an electric engraving tool.

I'm thinking possibly an engraver too or a type of rotary tool.

Looks like a liquid form of material got on the coin and then when it dried it shrunk in size. I've seen varnish runs do that.
