I am afraid that I disagree with your comment about the necessity for having a base knowledge in ancient Roman politics, to start collecting. You start collecting without it and pretty soon it dawns on you that you have it! (It creeps up on you before you realise it - at least that was my experience.) Learning teaches you a lot, including, "It doesn't matter how much you know, there is still more that you don't know."
