As promised, here is the second of my two purchases from our friend @Zohar444 .

This is a Denarius from Caracalla. The reverse shows Fides standing between two military standards, RIC 266, RSC 315. It was minted in 215AD

NGC graded this coin Ch MS, 5/5, 5/5. In hand, the luster is strong and unbroken on the high points. From my comparison to others of the type, the strike is definitely above average. The great eye appeal attracted me to this coin, and I am pleased to own it!

Wow, that's a righteous coin, in terms of portrait and overall appeal of the obverse :) As for the grade, who cares. Your eyeballs tell you what you need to know.

That is the kind of coin that deserves the grade given and is wronged when lesser examples are given the top marks as well. Congratulations.

    Never.

When my heirs sell it, whoever buys it next can do that.

Well, my eyes and the listed grade/condition are finally at peace.:p

That's as close to MS as any ancient coin can be and everything else about it is superb!!!

I would love to know today what the market in 2100 (I hope I am not cutting your life short with that number) will say when your grandchildren sell the coin. Will the market comment on it being inside some strange holder that was hard to open. Will it have been 50 years since anyone saw a coin not already in a slab or will everyone wonder how so nice a coin is only a 5 when the scale then goes to 20? Collecting fashions have changed a lot in the 50 years I have been playing in this pool. They will continue to change. If we knew today what will be fashionable in five or fifty years, some of us could capitalize on future foolishness. I think I'll melt all my coins down and make me an urn. Then you can say, "He could take 'em with him!"

Wow physics => that is an amazingly awesome OP-score (congrats)

Ummm, I also have a pretty cool denarius from this fella ... yah-yah, everybody has already seen it, but I thought perhaps you might allow me to let it prance around for a sec and stretch its coin-legs? (thanks, coin-bro)

I don't necessarily try to predict the market in the future. I can only try to understand the market in the present. The challenge for people who have been in the hobby for a while is, of course, to recognize that times change and that the market is not the same as it was in the past.

Thanks for the positive comments, everyone!

That is a seriously gorgeous coin. Congrats!

It often seems like us regular denizens of CT Ancients can't help but go on about "setting free" and "liberating" these slabbed coins, but some like yours could make an argument for coins that don't even want to be breathed upon, much less risk being knocked about with their aVF brethren. "Keep those plebeians away from, I like my pristine, plastic apartment!"

    Very nice! My humble denarius:

    Caracalla, AD 198-217
    AR denarius, 3.01g, 20mm, 6h; Rome mint, AD 210-213.
Obv.: ANTONINVS PIVS AVG BRIT; laureate head right.
Rev.: MONETA AVG; Moneta standing left, holding scales and cornucopia.

I'm more of a provincial guy.
