    Now, of course, the finder is asking me if he should get it graded and slabbed. My impression is no. Anyone else...

    Most of the "sold" coins are much much less than that though. By half on average.

    Having it graded and slabbed always comes down to a question I ask myself. Why? So I can get more if I sell it? So it is protected? So I can win a bet on the grade?
    I think your friend needs to ask themselves those questions after they find out how much it would cost them to have it done.

    Very nice find! I'd advise him as well to just sock it away in a 2X2 and describe it as indicated.
