Hey guys, My father wants to display his raw CBHs and was looking for an album like a dansco, they dont make any, so I am forced with finding an alternative. Do you guys have any suggestions? Also looked at airtites stored in a lighthouse album too, but I dont know enough about the half dollars and sizing to know what they fit in, especially with the change in diameter Thanks guys for any help you can provide
I'd peruse this store: http://www.valleycoin.com/index.php?cPath=9_409_1482 They have the airtites and albums you could put them in. This would allow people to pull them out and "play" with them without damaging them. As far as dimensions, I'm sure you could simply measure a Capped Bust Half (wish I had them all to do that for you but here's a link that gives you the breakdown: http://cappedbusthalfdollar.org/capped-bust-half-dollar-specifications/ )
One of these...... http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/product/dansco-blank-binder-58.html And a few of these...... http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/product/dansco-extra-page-half.html
Not a bad reference, but be careful because the CBHs don't all have the same dimensions and I don't know if that'll affect them going into the same sized sheet.
Oh dear........possible problem for sure. One could always employ the 'square peg in the round hole' thingo, though, right?
Give David Lange a call at NGC. 941-360-3990. He wrote a book on coin albums. He collects them also and may have a duplicate. I've seen them before...Wayte Raymond if I remember. Lots of old timers use them to tone coins so the population of survivors is going down. Wait until after Christmas as he is on vacation.
I'm a big fan of AirTite capsules. Use 'em for all my raw half dollars. I like the "black ring" capsules for my Franklins, Walkers, and Liberty Seated halves: But for my Capped Bust halves I use the "Direct Fit" capsule. This lets you see the CBH edge inscription: Unfortunately they don't make an exact size capsule for the CBH (32.5 mm). Their size chart says H-32 (32.7 mm) will work. It does... with a small wedge, it's snug and doesn't rattle. For display, I use the Lighthouse "Coin Capsule Page" ($3/ea) in my own 3-ring binders: http://www.jpscorner.com/coin-capsule-pocket-page-albums.html For compact storage in my safe deposit box, I use these tubes: http://www.jpscorner.com/storage-tubes-airtite-coin-holders.html More info: http://www.jpscorner.com/airtite-coin-holders.html Of course, shop around for best prices.
