That's fine. If it's problem others will chime in. I like that token, very nice! Not bad pictures as well.

Thanks, I,m a sucker when it comes to patriotism. true blue American. anything to do with American history. Especially the early formation years and civil war era. My heroes are George Washington, and the founding fathers...

You're singing my song! I can tell you and I are going to get along just fine! Did you serve in the military?

I, too, collect medals from not only the US, but 19th century Europe as well. Since we don't have a forum for medals, it makes no never mind to me where you post them.

Here is one from the Bicentennial you might appreciate. It's 76mm x 9mm thick.

Hi,yes your right. I think they need to add a miscellaneous forum for stuff . including Exonumia. I personally feel, that exonumia, contributed a lot to the designs of coins. Look at the Fugio cent,or the Libertas Americana. Both by Franklin, and are early American tokens or medals.. or the French Marianne medals used on obverses. to horticultural medals, influencing the reverse wreaths and such ,on reverses, on patterns submitted and excepted for production...just some food for thought... heres a great one by Frank Gasparro known for the reverse on the Kennedy Half. I personally think they were using this screwpress on the 1793 disme...

@older49er really like the exonumias. Do you have any idea how many were made, when and where? There may have been a date, but I couldn't make it out.

Hi, thanks, really couldn't find a date either. But I haven't done any research. But, by condition and the wording on the reverse. I suspect the 1850s or close to that era... best regards I think these were sold ,after the capitol was rebuilt. as a fund drive to recover costs incurred

What's the diameter of the tokens in your first post Old49er?

Great story and experience! I know those 4 years must have flown by. I was in as well, 3 years Marine Barracks. I was in and out, one month before my 21st birthday.

    Enjoy the forum!

The look of the font, especially on the obv makes me suspect a 20th century issue. Couldn't be the 1850's, the Capitol has the dome and that wasn't finished until I believe 1864. We do know who made it though, the Osborne company in Cincinnati OH. there is a change they might have some information about it, but they have also disposed of a lot of their old records.
