Let&#039;s say you can give 15k tax free. This can be cash, stocks, coins, whatever. If you are right and you have to take the donors basis, are you saying 15k basis worth of coins, or 15k fmv? If 15k fmv, but you get a lower basis, that gift is not as efficient as cash.
