As to retained soil deposits, I like the dirt on my Norman tari so much that I left it there when the coin was submitted for certification.

If you look closely enough, there's even one small white grain (quartz, maybe) still adhering to the right crossbar of the cross. That's a tiny little piece of Sicilian history, right there.
