As a 'Merican living in Canada since 1997, I am usually ashamed of the grannie-bait that the RCM puts out, as I am with this creature. Every once in a while, they will get something right and put out a coin that is both beautiful and merits commemoration, but they are few and far between. Almost without exception, you can pick up nearly every RCM NCLT product that they spew out 3-4 years down the road on the secondary market for 40-60% of the issue price (most exceptions being in wildlife series). RCM products are sold (within display cases) at every Canada post office, secondary mail center (usually the largest retail or drug store chain stores where the public can mail items or buy stamps), or coin dealer (via full-page ads in newspapers or numismatic papers. The RCM puts out a huge, huge assortment of NCLT crappola that, evidently, lots of people buy. I can only guess that when Aunt Martha or Uncle Fred goes to the post office to mail their Xmas packages, they see these bright and shiny trinkets and think that they would be just perfect for little Timmy from Santa. There is so much new stuff put out that the annual Charlton Canadian catalogue had to put out a separate volume every year just for NCLT. Just think about that .. a new Canadian Red Book every year, just for non-circ coinage!!

As a side note, the original newspaper article was quite funny and well-written ... which is surprising since it originated in North Carolina.... that's a joke as I'm originally from Okla.
