Canadian with a rare penny

I have an American "wheat" penny that should be 1950 but it has as followed a "Dot" a "Slash" and then just 50. ....>>>. . /50

Sounds like damage to the first 2 numerals of the date.

Has to be.. The mint would not replace the 1 and the 9 with a dot and a slash..
