I just submitted an article about this error trio to Errorscope. It is the second known set with Canadian 1-cent coins, the other set, ironically, is also the same date, but slight different orientation of the planchets. That second set was featured on the cover of Terry Campbell's 1995 book "Canadian Error Coins: An Introduction".

Simply a wonderful set, all mint state. 1c_1979_mated_trio_assembled.jpg 1c_1979_mated_trio_disassembled.jpg 1c_1979_mated_middle_obv.jpg

Nice, but almost certainly had help in its creation.

I concur completely. Also, the fact that two were made of the same year, in the same fashion, no doubt solidifies that argument. Still, it is a pretty cool set in hand...

Here is a photo of the other set (from Campbell, 1995, Unitrade Associate Press).

    Hey SPPO ... stevex6 here

=> ummm, funny how many Canadian error coins are from this time period, eh?

Yah, the mid 70's early 80's seemed to be a period where there were a whole lotta errors ... or is it just me and I happen to have a few from this period?

    Thanks dawg

Oh, here are a couple of my examples ...

Just a follow up... my article on this coin was published in the July issue of Errorscope, and made the front cover! :snaphappy:

Other than the person who made them keeping them together, how do such coins end back with the rest of the group?

Yah, I am merely assuming that the dudes on the operations-floor were kind of experimenting with these errors (I'm betting that security wasn't quite as tight in the ol' mint?!) ... good times to be an operator on the floor ('cha-ching' went his boots, as he headed to the men's dry)

    ;)
