    Found both of them coin hunting. I need to know is the penny a NSF and whats up with the gold tone on the back of the quarter.

    Quarter was altered after it left the Mint.. Novelty item.

    I had to look up the meaning of NSF -

    On the Canadian coins of 1953, there were a few different types. NSF means "no shoulder fold". There is also a "shoulder fold". This refers to a fold of cloth on the shoulder of Elizabeth II. The coins with no shoulder fold make it appear that her shoulder is bare. Every denomination of Canadian coinage from 1953 was made with both types.

    Since your Cent is a 1955 I will say it is not NSF
