I just bought one. Why can't I find any info on it? Coinsandcanada does not list a one cent for 1885. Can anyone help me?
Are you sure it's only One Cent? Seems like they only had 5, 10 and 25 Cent denominations for that year. Can you post a picture?
But it wasn't produced that year. At least not according to anything I have. Maybe an 1888 that was made into an 1885?
It's like the one paddy posted in design. The 5 is low compared to 188. It doesn't look tooled, but I'm driving home so will post pics later
I want to share this Interesting side note - From the wikidot.com website - Quote "Prior to 1908, there was no mint in Canada, and all of Canada's coins were struck in England. Those coins that do not have a mint mark were struck at the Royal Mint at London. Those with the "H" mint mark were struck at the Heaton Mint at Birmingham." Closed quote
"No cents were minted during 1877 through 1880, or in 1883, 1885, or 1889." http://www.winsociety.org/library/Collecting_Canadian_Large_Cents-D-Hallmark.pdf
Silentnviolent I'm not an expert on these or doctored coins but the fact that these guys say none are know makes me suspicious. Maybe because I'm now suspicious I'm looking for something...do you get what I'm saying? I don't like the how the field around the 5 is so much brighter than the rest of the date. I also have suspicions about the areas I highlighted:
