Actually, I think it's a '74. I might be stretching a bit on this last one, but that third number looks like the making of a '7' to me.
Where's the Nic-A-Date when you need it or should I say Coin-Be-Gone since there is not much left to Nic! Frank
No matter what the Count says, I still think it's a weak strike counterfit. Oh. yeah, he's the LordCount. Then he must be right. So there are some weak letters & numbers. It still doesn't prove it's a real coin. I think it's a fake. Bruce
A real solid guess :rolling: WOW on a 20th century Kennedy you can actually STREEEETCH your imagination to think that the first 2 numbers may possibly be a 1 & a 9. Good detective work there! Maybe the 3rd # will be a 6. I know you'll get to the botom on this one soon. I'm just waiting for the final analysis to be revealed by someone! I'm trembling with antisipation.
mralexanderb, Ah come on....just because you didn't think to look that close doesn't mean you have to give the guy a hard time. Sure we all know the first 2 numbers are 19 but the next few might just be a 74. I've seen alot of worn 1974 halves in the last few years. BTW---What makes you think its fake? He hasn't posted the weight..... I've seen some "test" strikes (I know that in the error world some people don't agree on the Test Strike stuff) graded by some TPG's and they are really worn and have almost no detail at all. This could be one but I'm no expert on that kindof stuff. The one I saw was an Ike Dollar and you could just faintly see the outline of Ike's head and that was it. It was graded by PCI. Edited to add: I've been going back over his photo and on the Rev. you can see some of the lettering near the rim---if I remember right the only part of the detail that I could see on any of the "Test" strikes were all in the center and there was nothing out near the rim. I don't know if this could still be one or if that rules that out but I thought I would post it and see what the rest of ya'll thought..... Speedy
There are a lot of things that make me and quite a few others believe that the coins is some sort of Counterfeit! At the least, it is some sort of joke as I have never see a Kennedy Half Dollar in which Kennedy has a doubled winged collar! Since there is no shirt or a dress coat of a suit shown, then why the collar? Frank
Frank, Take a look at another Kennedy Half....I think what looks like the collar is really the D in GOD and the WE in WE and maybe a small Mintmark below the W. Speedy
Speedy, No, that is not what I am seeing! If you look on the first (upper) picture that gatzdon provided and the closeups that Lordco provided, you can see what appears to be an incuse collar on both sides (left and right) of Kennedy's lower neck. These are definitely not the D in GOD and the WE in WE or a small Mintmark below the W! Frank
OK, the coin is copper-clad and weight come out to be 10.506g (accurate to the 0.001g). Given that weight, I think this is clearly wear and tear. It's definitely an early design as on the newer halves, the eagle is no where near as raised as this one is.
Well actually, that part I wrote about the 1 and the 9 was 'tongue in cheek', and I hoped that it would be recognized as such. However, looking back over the post, I did see where I made my mistake. I forgot to add the obligatory 'smiley faces' to the post to indicate a lack of seriousness. I do apologize, mralexanderb, I do. You see, I don't generally use 'smiley faces' and it honestly never occurred to me that you might need these visual aides while reading. Again, I apologize. In the future, I will try my hardest to add enough smileys to my posts so that this sort of confusion doesn't occur again. In the meantime, I hope that you will accept these smileys below as an indication of my good faith. :eating::rolling::goofer::computer::hammer:
LordCo, I wouldn't worry too much about some of the remarks from some of the folks here on Coin Talk! There are some that get testy when their wives put too much starch in the underwear! Frank
