As to the toning debate. If it was deliberately toned to appeal to collectors of the same than in not for it I find the tpgs to be very arbitrary about that. As to environment I’ve lived in New England nearly all my life. I’ve collected coins for about 35 years (god that’s scary) and also being in the antique business I see a lot of early us coins coming fresh from estates I find the early bust and seated silver has a tendency to be dark. Very dark at times when it’s spent it’s life up here. A lot of circams. Why. All the sulfurous gases from all the industry up here and coal and wood burning all through the early 20th c. Are these coins considered damaged. Not according to Pcgs ngc cac etc. they’re totally original and cleaning them would leave a damaged ugly surface. But I’d this storage improper. Yes. But was it part of its history yes. So I feel just like toning it’s an arbitrary call. My coins are in a safe. Not modern or nessicarily airtight but big heavy and cast iron in a 230 year old house primarily heated with wood. Most are slabbed and most have not changed a bit in all the years I owned them
