I was shown a couple of methods, the easiest simply sped up what would happen naturally anyway, low heat+sulphur source+moisture. I have mentioned before I don't want to post details, since I disagreed with AT then, and still do.
I certainly won't argue with you all. You all know way more than me. I would want to see them in hand to see how the luster really looks on the coins. I want to see how it reflects the luster and the cartwheel effect. I know some of the graded toned coins I have seen in hand (like morgans) I really do not like because the color(or toning) prevents you from seeing the luster. Now give me one of those lusty brown coins that just reflects right back at you and it will draw my eye. Like that over priced 31-S I bought.
Dick , I love the '11 and the others and would love them in my collection . I say they should grade but who knows with the tpgs today .
Exactly why I bought them. As a side note, NGC was at the show. I asked one of their reps what he thought. Far from certain, but his guess is they would not grade. The problem is, he was a paper money specialist. I have no idea how much weight to put in his opinion.
I have no idea whether the grader will be or used to be a roll searcher or not, but if he were, he would see many coins with that type and color toning on them in circulation. Nice coins, don't kick them out of bed because of someone else's opinion, only your's truly matters.
NONE . For a time, NGC had a person at the show table to give opinions about a coin's grade. While he was a well-known professional researcher/numismatist of the highest order, he was not a grader. Very often his opinion did not match the outcome when the coin was sent in. For that reason, I believe NGC stopped giving show opinions a decade ago. ANACS (some shows); ICG (all shows); SEGS (shows in Chattanooga + ?) have graders at their tables. For this reason and the fact that they are the ANA's "grading service of choice" due to a $$$ contract), a few years ago, NGC began giving opinions (for very short hours) during many shows they attend. It's about time!
I must say of all the shows I've been to , ANACS has been the most approachable with competent graders on hand and a friendly desire to help . They make you feel at home , something I never felt at PCGS . NGC is second in that regards way above PCGS .
