Can someone ID?

Discussion in 'World Coins' started by Pietraszewski, Apr 13, 2010.

  1. Hello folks, I'm having problem identifying this object. It's wafer thin and pressed through from one side, so you can say it is one sided. It's about 15mm in diameter. It looks goldish, but I doubt it. Probably it is not even a coin. Honestly, I've no idea about it. Can someone help ID this object?

Hi welcome to CoinTalk, sorry I cant help with what it is but it does sort of resemble some kind of celtic medalion

  4. Hi, thanks for welcome. At first I thought it had arabic on it, but the center swirl is a bit basic for a toughra. Also, the swirl in the center reminded me of north India language numeral. I don't know. It was in a job lot of old coins I bought that were kept in a tin from the 1930s.

    Anyhow, thanks for welcome

Being one sided I would guess its a piece made for jewelry, designed too look like an ottoman coin.

  8. Yes, it is similar to one particular Ottoman coin. Yes, it is made as jewelry I think.
