Some kind soul sold this to me. It's a 1992 Columbus 500-year anniversary bullion weighing 500 grams. The thing is the official letter from the Washington Mint did not specify what is the purity of this item. I saw an almost exact copy of this item except that one has a gold plated bust of Columbus instead of this one having none. I've checked the Washington Mint but did they did not carry info on this anymore and even the same item i saw on the net. I saw also a similar item with a different design at the front, but same back design as mine. It was also released as part of Columbus' Quincentenary celebration. That one was marked as having 92.5 sterling purity at 500 grams. So right now I am still confused what is the purity of this and hopefully I don't have to verify through chemical testing. This one is a proof issue. The certificate i did not bother to take a pic. Back. any info on this would be nice.
This one isn't marked either: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1492-1992-Columbus-925-Silver-Coin-/130477523652
yap that's the one i saw there's a mark on the rim of the large coin though, it's "333". not sure if it has any meaning..
nothing actually. it's a folded letter congratulating the buyer for getting a limited large bullion collectible. that's it. no mention of the item's purity whatsoever. I've checked the Washington Mint website but didn't see any item resembling the one i have.
i had a couple of the big 4oz. buffalo's and eagles. the eagles were marked .999 but the buffalo were not. i took it to the local shop to verify but it still made me uneasy so i dumped it breaking even.
look at the edge of the coin, large silver coins usually have something indicated there regarding purity if it doesn't have anything listed on the face of the coin.
