Can my inherited coins be saved?

I use old Whitman folders for quarters and halves and a Dansco for silver dollars. I happen to like the edge toning you get from longterm storage in a Whitman. However in all of the folders I have removed the top plastic slide meaning the coins have support at the bottom but nothing sliding back and forth across the top of them. I also insert them obverse down, to protect the coin's most valuable side.
