Its making a ton of fumes and I decided wearing a mask would be a good idea. Does anyone know if hydrogen peroxide being microwaved produces fumes you should not breath? Thanks! BTW there is copper involved.
Most likely, leaving the room is not a bad place to start. What did you "Zap" it in? What type of container?
If you got it over 176 degree Fahrenheit then the Hydrogen Peroxide decomposed into water and oxygen and if you then got it over 212 the water boiled off. Be very careful with your home chemistry there are a lot more things in your house that could kill you then you think . And a paper dust mask probably wont save you from any of them.
I was thinking about his Bang to Buck ratio. I stick to my 1st advice......or take the microwave out into a field....WAY out into the field.
We had it boiling. It was fizzing for a while after we took it out of the microwave. BTW it was a surgery mask.
if he is using the 30% or stronger stuff there is a chance of it going off like rocket fuel but I'm thinking he has the 3% drug store variety. The surgical mask is just as bad when your dealing with chems you need a respirator or a SCBA The respirator you can pic up for about $80 you should also be working in a well ventilated area or outside The bubbles from when you first started was from an increase in oxidation the hotter it is under 176 F the faster it will oxidize whatever you put in it.
You folks need your own shed. Away from the house. And better masks with filtration. And some time in the Library. And for about $3.00 bucks you can replace your coin with a fake from China. That way when you inherit it you already know it's porked and don't need to fight over it. :mouth:  It's what me & my brothers used to do. And don't forget to hoe da corn before supper or ya ain't getting any!~
Therefore for a while you have a high oxygen concentration in the microwave. 1. It's highly flammable. Probably not too hard to get a nasty fire going. Definitely not good for the microwave and also for the rest of the house. 2. Even if it doesn't burst into flames, warm oxygen is pretty reactive. That also is definitely not good for the microwave components.
Garret I seriously hope that smiley means that is a joke. Putting any chemical into a microwave is way beyond dangerous. It's foolish.
Is the large font really necessary? I find it annoying. But you're right in what you're saying. No dust or surgical mask is going to give any protection against chemical fumes in the air you breathe. Do that stuff outside.
I am not nuking the xylene, I am just soaking the coin in it. My Moms with me dont worry LOL. The only thing I have in the microwave right now is cocktail shrimp from Publix.
:secret: This may be too much information, but I learned early on~ Some of our old fans made sparks. So we used passive ventilation &/or took it WAY outside. Guess not everyone has that option anymore.:goofer:
