Is this coin a proof? If not does the full steps grade apply?

Those are much better pics, so I have to agree it is a proof.

Therefore, no, it does not qualify for the FS designation…imo…Spark

But, why? Would that not be an anomaly with this date and MM? I am setting aside the FS issue, in asking.

After doing a little research the 1968-S Nickels were made both in proof and for circulation.

Yes, I am aware. That is not the thrust of my question to Mr. Spark, and I guess to others that opine it is Proof, in the specific case of this date and MM.

Not sure what you're asking here. Is it unusual to find a proof in circulation? Kinda, but not that unusual. Is it unusual to find an S-mint proof? Certainly not for 1968.

I am interested if the members leaning toward a Proof Strike think the photos are clear enough to examine for a Doubled Die, or a RPM.

Its the rims that will indicate a proof, not anyother ;reflections, shiney, pricey, etc.

    See the rims below

Bingo but we haven't seen the 'third side' of OP's coin. I still say it's a proof without viewing such.

Same with me. It’s a proof, impaired but a proof.

So, you have some proof coins with a chamfered edge?

Take a good picture of the "third side", the edge. Squared - proof, chamfered - business
