I'm at my wits end! I'm trying to identify this coin. It was tentatively identified as a short cross penny, but I don't believe that to be the case given the complete dissimilarity to the cross design. Unfortunately this the only image available and only this of this face, but you can make out the cross fourchee and the fork at each end. Initially I thought it might be 8 Heller but that went out of the window, then perhaps even medieval French or even crusader, but I've had no luck at all identifying it. Any help at all will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
We really need a better picture! Even fully expanded I can make out no letters. It looks possible to be a Norman penny from England - the crosses before Henry II are much more variable than the later short and long cross pennies - it could be one of those. But we need to see more.
