There maybe some signification meaning to them or not. The coin is still worth one cent, but becomes more of a novelty then a numismatic collectible.</p><p><br /></p><p>There are many, many examples of this type of counter stamping. I do believe on some very, very old coins this expected and relates to where the coin was spent.
