I just found this penny in a coin roll and don’t know if this is an error or not. Please tell me what this is.

Post-mint damage. Somebody really beat it up.
It is not worth anything except 1 cent.

As stated.. It's an old stuck in Dryer Coin
Obverse and Reverse side damaged by heat.

Doesn't look like a dryer coin, I'd say it's fire damage.

Can a dryer actually create enough heat to melt copper? I'm thinking something else caused this.

It is more due to the constant heat and spinning than just applying direct heat (fire).

I'm quite sure that's a Zincoln. When they were first released, I remember playing around placing them on a glowing-red electric stove burner. It would only take seconds for them to melt, and I see no reason the same wouldn't hold true for a fire.

I highly doubt it. Copper's melting point is like 2.5x that of zinc, so if any melting was done, it would be the first to go.
