Calling the Toning Experts! Are these Ikes Artificially Toned?

    If you want a beautifully toned Ike for short money i would suggest a brown box ike, they can be had for cheap on ebay and the plus side of it, is it will be in its original government packaging. No question the toning will be natural.

    I just auctioned a brown box Ike with the most beautiful blue halo/bullseye toning. It had gotten pretty hazy. I think it went for $19.

    Yeah,I retract what I said...after looking at all the other auctions, they are definitely "shake and bake."

    The 77 isn't planchet chatter which is technically annealing marks imparted to the planchet during the softening phase of production. If the strike is done with enough pressure, those annealing marks go away with natural metal flow. Most often, they appear near the outer area of the coin.

    The 77 just looks beat up from circulation abuse.

    I seriously doubt that it has album toning and if the coins were sold in a "lot", the others are probably not album toned either.
