Hello,

I have had several of these California P Error Coins in my collection but to my knowledge they have never become a popular Error Coin. Having said that, I have not seen any with the same exact errors either like the giant CUD on top of John Muir's Hat. Many people named this coin the Halo-Hat Coin because of the appearance of a Halo created by what looks like a Clashed Die. Now if you look at the N in JOHN and the lower part of the 8 in 1850, you will see 2 more CUDS. About 1/3 way down the Mountain you can see another Clashed Die which can give the appearance of a Moon Rising over the Mountain. The Moon Rising is another name used to describe these coins. The pictures do not show the greatest example of this Moon illussion and some coins are much better examples than others. Going to the Obverse now: The R in TRUST is filled as one can see. And, the lower part of Washington's Bust has a rather large Die Crack that goes down to the U in QUARTER. Some of these coins display Machine Doubling on parts of the Obverse and some have 2 Clashed Die on the Mountain to give the illussion of 2 Moons on the Reverse. The second Moon is very close to the ground.

Sorry for the long post but I really want to know why these coins never made it off the ground in the Error world. To me, that giant CUD on the Hat should make this coin somewhat popular but I guess I could be wrong...or am I the only person that has these? I really doubt that!

Thank you for any and all comments, Dave M.

**I hope the pictures turned out OK!
